SOLIDARITY JOURNEY TO MONGOLIA

As a TGM teacher I cooperated in holidays in a Christian working group for 3.Weltprojekte, and followed in  january 1997 an invitation of the buddhist Gandangtekchenling - monastery of Ulanbator, which received capital that Mongolia. After some consideration we decided to assume the invitation for the building of a Stupa (= buddhistic memorial place). A group of seven interested people prepared for this journey. At initial communication difficulties with the head of the Gandangklosters it succeeded to us to take up with a Lama of another buddhistic monastery and the catholic parish contact. Both looked forward to our attendance.

Although it gave  some uncertainty in connection with our accommodation to the hosts, the situation locally etc., much solve itself in positive way and we could be impressed by the endless width usually only of a landscape filled with short thin grass and by the population, who lives to a third still as nomads.

Mongolia has approximately 1.5 millions km2 and 2.2 millions inhabitants. On it live about 1.2 millions in the few cities, the remainder on the meager country. The country in all other respects consists of for instance a third desert (Gobi), a third forest and mountain landscape and of tree and bushless hill landscape, which pulled through from the innumerable herds of cattle become.

Whether sheep, goats, cattle, yaks, camels offer or over all estimated horses, them a romantic picture of the landscape, which is characterized however by large poverty and modesty of humans. How  this idyl can survive in the change of the state, is with difficulty conceivable.

Our attendance was from the outset under a lucky star and we could to this beautiful country completely in accordance with our destinations dedicate itself:

  1. Meeting with the Mongolian Buddhism in the Christian spirit,
  2. Cooperation with resulting work, immersing into the life of humans
  3. Acquire from knowledge over the Buddhism and the functions of the monks
  4. Wake from mutual understanding fur religious practice
  5. Inform about the catholic church in that Mongolia and
  6. Friendly co-operation in the group and common, harmonious occurring in the host country.

Us on this journey the contact with the buddhistischen Lama Dr.Natsagdorj became very valuable. As chief and a physician he led the monastery and health center " Manba Tatsan ". The comprehensive view of the patient, with its history and his life situation impressed us very much. The prayer, as a sign of the faith combined with most diverse traditional medicine, is offered for the healing. A way, to which in our western world too few meaning is given.

This health center is also a private university for traditional Mongolian Herbalmedicin attached, which enables an addition study to physicians already trained. Dr. Natsagdorj showed us differently temple systems and introduced us to the Mongolian Buddhism.

Economically seen a departure tendency is to be felt. Advanced, foreign investors will become looked the privatisation up. But as only in our countries of the east humans must adjust to the unusual liberty with all the well-known pro and cons, influences and developments. Everything comes sometimes too fast to humans and forces it to concern under printing as us a politician complained. All old person is subjected to a change, which disconcerts humans. A distrust remained from history prevents an all too large commitment of the population at the reconstruction of the economy. Social restructuring, lack of capital, education deficits and poverty are only some problems, which must be mastered.
