Henry Morgan
Henry Morgan was born in Wales in 1635. He was the most
famous buccaneer in history who plundered Spain’s Caribbean colonies during
the late 17th century. History has it that Morgan was the nephew of Colonel
Edward Morgan who looted and captured islands in the West Indies. Colonel
Edward Morgan established himself as a commander of the militia. By 1668
Henry Morgan was already an English vice admiral of a fleet of 15 ships. At
the same time pirates elected Henry Morgan to become the successor to Edward
Mansfield, leader of all pirate activities in Jamaica. As an English officer
and pirate general Henry Morgan became the terror of all Spaniards in the
West Indies.
Henry Morgan was one of the most ruthless of pirates, his
daring brutality and intelligence made him the most feared and respected
buccaneer of all time. Henry Morgan really was the king of all pirates. When
he died in 1688 there were almost no buccaneers left.
