Sir Francis Drake
His place of birth was Tavistock, in Devonshire. He did three profitable voyages to the New World; plundering Spanish settlements. Francis Drake was a privateer, the reasons for turning to piracy were almost unknown, but we know that after the death of his wife he concentrated his life on what he was left: the sea! We don’t have any documents when Drake became a pirate, but his career began around 1576. He prowled for treasure in South America and in the Caribbean. All Drakes’ legends are focused on his famous voyages for Queen Elizabeth, he made from 1577 to 1580. In 1581 he was knighted. He died in 1596 on a tropical disease like the bloody flux or maybe the yellow fever during the last expedition against the Spanish in the Caribbean
